RECLAIMING AN INDUSTRIAL CORRIDOR FOR AN URBAN GREENWAY
As the bucolic Assunpink Creek flows into downtown Trenton, it winds through a former industrial corridor, becomes degraded and is tunneled underground into the Delaware River. Now, however, a section of the Assunpink is poised to become a greenway and park as part of the City of Trenton’s Brownfield Redevelopment Program. The future greenway includes former industrial parcels.
Langan used the USEPA’s Triad Approach for site and remedial investigations to characterize potential contaminants within the industrial parcels. The Triad Approach streamlines investigation, reduces uncertainty and conforms to New Jersey’s Technical Requirements for Site Remediation by using systematic planning, dynamic work strategies, and real-time measurement technologies to manage uncertainty at hazardous waste sites.
Langan has been able to analyze a greater number of field samples in a single detailed and accurate delineation program to move this project forward. Langan is collaborating with the City of Trenton, the NJDEP and USEPA on this project.
