MASTER PLAN PROVIDES OPEN SPACE OPPORTUNITIES AT FORMER ARSENAL

Langan was retained to develop a master plan and a feasibility study for the creation of an eco-park, wildlife sanctuary and wetland mitigation bank on 615 acres of the Former Raritan Arsenal in Edison, NJ. The master plan provides significant public open space opportunities within this major population center. The eco-park will feature an environmental education center, interpretive trails and accessible boardwalks through the restored salt marsh, passive and active recreational opportunities and facilities for water dependent uses along the Raritan River.

The feasibility study also addresses the potential for constructing a large-scale wetland mitigation bank, residential housing, and commercial and industrial uses.

Langan has coordinated this public-private partnership between the client, and both Edison Township and Middlesex County to connect a system of planned greenways. The master plan also includes estuarine research facilities that will allow for university level education and outreach partnerships.
