AIR QUALITY AND MOLD STUDIES AT GROUND ZERO

Several office buildings in Lower Manhattan suffered structural damage during the collapse of the World Trade Center. As a result of the damage, debris and particulates penetrated several buildings making concern about indoor air quality a priority.

Langan was retained by several confidential clients to evaluate indoor air quality and perform exposure-risk assessments to determine when the buildings would be safe for re-occupancy. We collected numerous air and surface samples throughout the buildings to adequately characterize the indoor air quality. In addition, we coordinated and oversaw independent contractors working on air quality and microbial contamination within the buildings. We developed risk assessments based on analytical results from hundreds of samples, and then designed and implemented remedial strategies to remedy any of the concerns about air quality or microbial contamination. Target concentration goals were achieved in all locations, and all buildings were safely reoccupied.
