Langan is seeking an Environmental Scientist, Geologist, Engineer or Hydrogeologist to join its collaborative team in Philadelphia, PA office.  This individual will serve a key function in providing field services for construction and site investigation and remediation projects, including performing field tests and collecting field data, monitoring complex and challenging projects, and compiling field and comprehensive reports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects, solve problems and overcome challenges in restoring the environment and returning blighted properties to productive re-use while protecting and enhancing the environment.  The position encourages learning, growth, creativity, flexibility, and collaboration in a team environment.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Assists with the planning and execution of field investigations and remediation by performing field tests, collecting samples, collecting and recording data, interpreting data and performing routine calculations;
  • Monitors complex and challenging projects by implementing various data gathering tasks and implementing remedial investigations and remediation.  
  • Develops and executes work plans and observes whether contractor or subcontractor has complied with job specifications;
  • Identifies and implements solutions to both routine and more complex field and/or laboratory problems and accurately documents results. Communicates with supervisor on progress and any problems encountered on project sites;
  • Leads tasks associated with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates and designs for projects;
  • Supervises or coordinates the work of staff engineers, interns and others who assist in specific assignments as needed;
  • Prepares reports documenting field investigations and analytical results and findings/recommendations;
  • Prepares a variety of standard logs and field forms (such as sampling logs, drilling logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody forms);
  • Performs other duties as requested.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related;
  • 5 to 7 years of field experience in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland related to environmental investigations and remediation projects;
  • Office experience related to scheduling, technical report writing and lab coordination;
  • Knowledge of NJDEP, PADEP, CERCLA and RCRA regulations;
  • Strong understanding of accepted sampling and analytical techniques;
  • Knowledge of groundwater flow, aquifer characteristic testing and LNAPL / DNAPL behavior;
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, implement field work and provide training to new team members;
  • Working knowledge of computers; AutoCAD, GIS modeling and mapping and data visualization experience;
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification;
  • Candidates must be able to spend at least 50% of working hours in the field;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing with reliable transportation;
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.
