Langan is seeking an Environmental Geologist, Hydrogeologist, Engineer or Scientist to join its collaborative team in Calgary, AB. This individual will serve a key function in site exploration activities including soil investigations and groundwater monitoring well installations; conducting field tests; collecting field data and samples; monitoring site remediation including heavy equipment operator oversight, and compiling data and preparing reports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work cross collaboratively throughout our North American regions as part of a diverse and rapidly growing team with a strong project pipeline in contaminated site assessment and remediation.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Collection of soil, soil vapor, sediment, surface water and groundwater samples;
  • Providing jobsite health and safety leadership by preparing health and safety plans, complying with relevant health and safety regulations, participating in and leading tailgate safety meetings and other formal and informal safety-related responsibilities, and immediately intervening in unsafe situations;
  • Management of laboratory analytical data and measurements collected in the field;
  • Data analysis, including the preparation of trend graphs, concentration maps, groundwater gradient maps, data tables, and other environmental figures;
  • Experience with various contaminants of concern including hydrocarbons, metals, and salinity;
  • Preparing technical correspondence, cost proposals, workplans, reports, and other deliverables;
  • Assisting with acquisition of and compliance with regulatory agency permits to support site investigation and remediation;
  • Reviewing and interpreting environmental, geological, and historical records to support environmental due diligence; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in environmental consulting or other relevant field;
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field;
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (P. Eng., P. Geo., P. Ag, G.I.T, E.I.T, C.E.T);
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of environmental regulations, soil physical properties, hydrology, and contaminant remediation technology;
  • Experience with ArcGIS, EQuIS, Microsoft Access, SQL, gINT, and/or other data modeling or database management software;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgement capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing; and
  • Ability to spend up to two-weeks at a time conducting fieldwork requiring overnight travel and weekend work, on occasion.
