Langan is seeking an Environmental Staff Geologist or Engineer to join its collaborative team in Seattle. This individual will serve a key function in providing field services for construction and site investigation projects, including performing field tests and collecting field data, monitoring complex construction related projects, and compiling daily reports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be an integral part of a growing office and the opportunity to work cross-collaboratively on small and large-scale projects in Oregon and Washington.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Assists with the planning and execution of field investigations by logging borings, collecting samples, performing field tests and collecting and recording data. Performs routine and special calculations;
  • Monitors construction projects by taking various tests to evaluate whether the contractor or subcontractor has complied with job specifications;
  • Identifies and implements solutions to both routine and more complex field and/or laboratory problems and accurately documents results. Communicates with supervisor on any problems encountered on project sites;
  • Prepares reports documenting field investigations and analytical results;
  • Prepares a variety of standard logs and field forms (such as drilling logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs);
  • Learns data management and modeling tools for environmental media, how to perform engineering analyses, and how to properly use field equipment;
  • Conducts file reviews, site reconnaissance, and prepares reports;
  • Prepares laboratory data summary tables and figures.  Learns laboratory QA/QC procedures;
  • Applies knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics;
  • Solicits proposals from subcontractors for site investigation field and laboratory work, as needed;
  • Assists with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates and design plans for projects;
  • Effectively uses reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects; and
  • Performs other duties as requested.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology or Hydrogeology;
  • 2 to 4 years of related Washington experience in contaminated sites investigation, engineering feasibility studies, remedial and mitigation system design and construction oversight for urban in-fill projects, including experience with petroleum hydrocarbons, fuel additives, chlorinated solvents, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, heavy metals, and nutrients;  
  • EIT or FG Certification, or current registration for the PE or PG (WA) exam;
  • Experience conducting Phase I, II and III environmental site assessment including drilling observation, sampling, well installation, construction/remediation oversight;
  • Experience performing small and large scale groundwater treatment system design, operation and maintenance, and optimization;
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Washington state and federal environmental regulations (including CERCLA and RCRA);
  • Experience working with state regulatory agencies, including Washington Department of Ecology;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
