Langan is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join its collaborative team in Houston, TX.  This individual will serve a key function in planning, design and permitting of traffic/transportation engineering and will assist with preparing technical reports, design plans and specifications. In this role, you will have an opportunity to fuel Langan’s growth in the Texas market, with the backing of a well-established firm.
 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Assists with the planning, design and permitting of traffic/transportation engineering, land development and infrastructure projects;

  • Uses engineering equipment and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) to prepare engineering and design documents;

  • Applies knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics;

  • Sets up field data collection efforts including traffic and parking counts;

  • Collects field data that affects traffic operations such as road geometry and traffic signal phasing and timing;

  • Assists with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates and design plans for projects;

  • Calculates trip generation for projects by identifying and applying published trip rates;

  • Prepares gravity models to form the basis of project trip distribution;

  • Assigns project trips over road network using route assignment logic and engineering judgment;

  • Prepares scope of study reports to define traffic analysis locations for projects;

  • Summarizes field traffic volume data and prepares peak hour traffic volume networks for formal traffic analysis (existing, no-build, and build conditions);

  • Runs capacity analysis using various software (HCS and SYNCHRO);

  • Prepares individual sections of traffic impact studies;

  • Prepares conceptual road design, parking, site access and traffic signal layouts; and

  • Performs other duties as requested.

 

Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required with Traffic Engineering or Road Design focus preferred;

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;

  • FE/EIT certification is preferred;

  • Prior related experience is desired;

  • Proficiency in HCS, SYNCHRO and the MUTCD is highly desirable;

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software are a plus;

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and 

  • Possess reliable transportation to access job sites and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
