Langan is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join its collaborative team in Irvine, CA. This individual will serve a key function in providing support to project managers and perform duties as a field representative during subsurface exploration and construction. As the successful candidate, you will have interest in performing calculations, preparing technical documents, providing recommendations for foundations, retaining walls, and other geotechnical-related aspects of a project in a dynamic environment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic group of engineering professions on a wide variety of challenging project types ranging from high-rises, stadiums and arenas, to multi-family, logistics, and alternative energy projects both in the Southern California area and throughout the Western U.S. regions.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and collecting and recording data. Use field-testing equipment including a nuclear gauge with proficiency;
  • Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities and monitor conformance with the construction documents (plans and specifications). Issue non-conformance reports;
  • Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches;
  • Prepare report exhibits, figures, and plans using AutoCAD;
  • Assist with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including report specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design plans for projects;
  • Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments; and
  • Assist other work groups within the same or different disciplines or office locations on an as-needed basis.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering strongly preferred;
  • Entry to 3 years of experience in geotechnical consulting or other relevant field;
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0;
  • FE/EIT certification preferred;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to follow direction and work in a team environment;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to spend at least 90% of work hours in the field while performing required field duties;
  • A valid driver’s license in good standing;
  • Position requires work Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends; and
  • Local candidates preferred.
