Pond System Ecological Risk Assessment

OVERVIEW
Langan developed and completed a detailed ecological risk assessment program of two artificial on-site ponds and the immediate downstream portion of a receiving brook at a former research and development laboratory facility. The investigation included sediment, surface water, surface soil, and fish tissue sampling and analysis; sediment toxicity testing; and site-specific food chain modeling to assess the risk to the benthic and fish populations of these aquatic systems as well as select avian and small mammalian receptors. Langan concluded that there was no evidence of significant impairment to the ecological community, recommending no further action which was approved by the NJDEP.
