Port Authority Bus Terminal – International Design & Deliverability Competition

OVERVIEW
The Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT) is the most heavily used bus terminal in the world and plays a critical role for both New York and New Jersey commuters. The existing PABT facility is facing major challenges: the building is overcrowded, obsolete, and rapidly deteriorating. To address the challenges, the Port Authority conducted a design competition to seek ideas and design concepts for a new bus terminal in the complex urban environment of New York City. The team’s new 4-million-SF terminal met or exceeded demand projections for 2040, with 36 inter-city gates at street-level and 164 commuter gates at four upper floors, serving over 365,000 passengers per day on average.
