Trevor Day School

OVERVIEW
To accommodate the school's planned 25 percent increase in middle and high school enrollment, the Trevor Day School built a new state-of-the-art, LEED-certified, 12-story building with one below-grade level. In support of the school's sustainability initiatives, Langan assisted with geothermal conductivity testing to evaluate the use of geothermal heat-exchanger piles or "energy piles." A total of 365 piles were installed, and geothermal loops were installed in many of the piles to create a geothermal energy pile system that provides most of the heating and cooling supply. This project was especially significant because it was the first instance in which energy piles were used in New York City, and was one of the first projects to contribute to Mayor Bill de Blasio's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050.
