Caryn Barnes Named President of LSRPA

Langan Principal and Environmental Practice Leader Caryn Barnes, LSRP, PG, has begun serving as President of the New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professionals Association (LSRPA). The LSRPA is the non-profit, professional organization established to provide information, education, and technical resources to LSRPs and other professionals involved in environmental remediation in the State of New Jersey. With over 800 members, the LSRPA is recognized by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) as the primary representative of the profession and by NJBiz as one of NJ’s top business professionals associations. As LSRPA President, Ms. Barnes works with organizations representing remediating parties, the NJ Site Remediation Professional Licensing Board, the NJDEP, and other external stakeholders to increase the pace of remediation, advance the science of remediation, reduce the threats of contamination, and return underutilized properties to productive use. By law, a LSRP’s highest priority is protection of human health and the environment.
Langan has 25 LSRPs which is more than double any firm in New Jersey. Langan has been instrumental in the development of the LSRP program since before the Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA) was signed into law in May 2009. We have provided testimony to the Senate during the promulgation of SRRA; served on the Site Remediation Professional Licensing Board; provided comments on numerous regulations, rules, and guidance documents; worked as leaders in educating and elevating the profession; and actively engaged in the LSRPA since inception. Now, 10 years after SRRA become law, more than 14,000 sites have completed remediation with no loss in quality.
Ms. Barnes has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of environmental investigations, feasibility testing, soil and groundwater remediation, soil vapor investigations, and site closure. She has worked extensively in New Jersey, on both New Jersey and EPA-lead projects, and in Pennsylvania on Act 2 projects. She has been an LSRP since the inception of the program, and is an expert in environmental regulations and a leader in the realm of emerging contaminants.
