Located on the waterfront in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood, 1 Java is a two-tower development with 850 rental units (including 30% affordable housing), 13,000 SF of ground-floor retail space, and amenities including a rooftop pool, interior courtyard, fitness center, work lounges, and a children’s playroom. Our team coordinated the site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility connections, and public right-of-way improvements, and prepared site utility plans, a site grading and drainage plan, and a soil erosion and sediment control plan. We also conducted a subsurface investigation, completed a geotechnical engineering report, and provided support of excavation and foundation design. The project’s sustainable features include a geothermal heat pump system and cooling towers to minimize carbon emissions; when completed, 1 Java is expected to be the largest geothermal residential building in New York State.
