I-70 Spill Response

OVERVIEW
Langan provided environmental and geotechnical engineering services in support of a 5,000-gallon petroleum spill that occurred along Interstate-70 in Gypsum, Colorado. The spill site is located within about 100 feet from the Eagle River so the petroleum spill had to be remediated expeditiously to prevent ecological damage. We prepared a Corrective Action Plan that included a subsurface investigation to delineate the extent of petroleum impacts and defined remedial objectives. Our geotechnical scope consisted of developing engineering plans to specify requirements for excavations adjacent to the I-70 median, backfill oversight, and compaction and moisture testing using a nuclear density/moisture gauge in accordance with CDOT specifications.
