Princeton University Campus Plan
OVERVIEW
Princeton University is undergoing a transformative era of campus development guided by its 2026 Campus Plan, with major projects focused on student life, housing, and wellness. Among the University’s top priorities are the expansion of Dillon Gymnasium, the construction of Hobson College, and the development of two new residential colleges (Yeh College and New College West). Together, these projects provide updated recreation and wellness facilities, modern residential communities, and expanded capacity to house an approximate ten percent increase of the undergraduate student body.
Yeh College and New College West opened in Fall 2022, taking the first step in providing sufficient and modern housing for the increase in the student body. The 30,000-SF Dillon Gymnasium expansion introduces a two-story addition, interior renovations, and site and utility improvements that enhance accessibility and wellness programming. Hobson College, with a 56,700-SF footprint, will replace First College and accommodate more than 500 students in a mix of residential, dining, and outdoor spaces.
Yeh College
Langan provided site/civil engineering services for each of these projects, including site and utility design, stormwater management, land-use permitting, and preparation of construction documents and technical specifications. Our team incorporated sustainable features such as porous pavers, green roofs, bioretention systems, infiltration trenches, and subsurface infiltration basins to support the University’s Sustainability Action Plan and pursuit of LEED Gold certification. The projects required extensive permitting and coordination with multiple regulatory agencies, including the municipality, the Delaware and Raritan Canal Commission, the Mercer County Soil Conservation District, and the NJDEP for Treatment Works Approval.
These developments support the university’s master plan goals, expand on-campus living opportunities, strengthen residential life, and modernize recreation and wellness facilities across campus.
