P.S. 62 – Net Zero Energy School
OVERVIEW
P.S. 62 The Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability is the first net-zero energy school in New York City and one of the first of its kind worldwide. The school will harvest as much energy from renewable on-site sources as it uses on an annual basis. This 68,000-SF, two-story courtyard-shaped building takes advantage of sunlight for both daylighting and photovoltaic arrays on the roof and south façade. Langan performed a geotechnical subsurface investigation program and geotechnical engineering design work for the design team. Langan’s extensive knowledge of Staten Island’s subsurface conditions provided valuable input to the design team for designing structures and pavements on poor drainage material.
