Moynihan Train Hall

OVERVIEW
Moynihan Train Hall is a 255,000 SF world-class transit hub within the James A. Farley Post Office Building across from Penn Station. The development provides access to Amtrak, NJ Transit, MTA, and LIRR, and expands Penn Station’s capacity to accommodate nearly one million commuters daily. Langan has provided surveying services since the project started in 2000, including traditional land surveying, 3D laser scanning, and 3D modeling. Through this data, the design team was able to work directly in a 3D environment and extract information in real time. We also developed site grading and drainage design for on-site plazas and sidewalks, supported installation of bollards, and provided a geotechnical investigation, foundation design recommendations, and special inspection of test borings. With drilling operations performed at night, train service and power were maintained in all areas of the station throughout.
