Langan Providing Integrated Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering for
South San Francisco Gateway of Pacific

Before dawn on the morning of April 29, Peter Cusack and Paul Gildea exchanged a brief, but critically important text message:

“SSFGOP is back on.”

Residents in the Bay Area had been sheltering in place, so there was a work stoppage on all projects, but the news in the text message above signified that essential projects were getting started again. Life science and biotechnology rank among the most essential development and construction markets, and few projects rival the South San Francisco Gateway of Pacific.

Located at the front entrance to South San Francisco’s biotech hub for mission critical life science research, BioMed Realty’s South San Francisco Gateway of Pacific will be a two-million-square-foot campus built in five phases and designed to the highest institutional standards. The campus will feature distinct and robust buildings within an active, urban-park setting on 22 acres.

“Before the coronavirus, we were extremely proud to be part of Gateway of Pacific, but now we are even more committed to advancing the essential project,” said Cusack, Senior Associate, Langan, who leads environmental engineering on the campus.

Gildea, a native of Ireland, and Langan Associate who’s traveled the world over, knows full well that the Bay Area is known for groundbreaking research and development. “The world looks to San Francisco for all manner of technology advancements, which certainly includes life science,” said Gildea, who leads geotechnical engineering on the campus.

In addition to the Bay Area, Langan is located in several key areas – New Jersey, New York, Southern California, and Boston – where life science and biotechnology projects are seeing strong growth in real estate development.
