Langan Helps Put Treasure Island Back on the Map
Time to shout “Eureka!” on Treasure Island. The state motto has never been more appropriate now that a massive redevelopment is well underway on the 400-acre artificial island in the middle of San Francisco Bay. The transformative project brings mixed-income housing, new public transportation connections, retail, and open space to the vibrant neighborhood.
Adjacent to Yerba Buena Island, Treasure Island was built in the 1930s and served as the long-time home to a U.S. Naval Station from 1941 until the installation’s closure in 1997. Langan has been a trusted consultant on site since the 1980s. Today, the firm continues to provide geotechnical, environmental, and site/civil engineering, as well as survey and regulated building materials services, for this multi-billion-dollar, mixed-use redevelopment.
Perhaps the most prominent new resident is the Bay FC Performance Center. Located in the center of Treasure Island and slated for completion in 2027, the local National Women’s Soccer League team will enjoy a state-of-the-art complex featuring three professional-grade fields and a 22,000-SF training facility. Langan provided its integrated services on this marquee project for Bay FC, which plays its home games at PayPal Park in San Jose—also a Langan project.

“We’re honored to support the development of Bay FC’s practice facility while simultaneously continuing our collaboration with Treasure Island Development Authority on such a significant project,” said Grace Stafford, Senior Project Manager, Langan. “We have worked on Treasure Island for decades with the goal of helping community-centered projects get out of the ground. It’s gratifying to develop much-needed housing and improve public access on this rare gem in the Bay, which truly offers the best views of San Francisco.”
