Tech Focus: Artificial Intelligence in Environmental Consulting
In the rapidly evolving tech landscape, artificial intelligence (AI)—or, more specifically, large language models (LLMs)—is redefining efficiency and innovation on a global scale. The emergence of LLMs provides the ability to engage and interact with digital environments, amplifying AI’s utility across platforms. LLMs are instrumental in automating processes, bolstering research, enhancing efficiency, fostering innovation, and providing deeper insights into complex engineering and environmental challenges.
Langan proactively formed an AI Steering Committee last year to evaluate applications and monitor the risks, advancements, and accuracy of LLMs. While AI has numerous capabilities, Langan’s application of the powerful technology in its environmental practice has led to new opportunities and success. Our team is currently focused on developing and implementing AI-enhanced environmental solution delivery, particularly for real estate development, transactional due diligence, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and investigative and remedial activities. Additionally, our team regularly employs AI-supported, 360-degree site inspection camera technology to compile findings from audio and photographic data, as well as an internal LLM that summarizes documents, generates ideas, and provides insight on complex challenges.
Regardless of the end goal of AI development and implementation, a commitment to safeguarding confidentiality and fostering innovation is of the utmost importance. Firms new to AI should establish stringent usage protocols, develop a strategic plan to responsibly improve business practices, and understand that AI should complement the capabilities of employees.
By strategically integrating advanced AI into its environmental consulting services with an emphasis on confidentiality, innovation, and strategic development, Langan is enhancing its client service capabilities in a sustainable and effective manner.
