ACEC Honors Andy Ciancia for Service to EEA Committee

ACEC honored Andy Ciancia at its annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) gala on May 20. Ciancia served as Chair of the ACEC National EEA Committee for 18 years, playing an instrumental role in expanding and shaping the distinguished awards program into what it is today.

The EEA celebrate engineering projects that demonstrate innovation, showcase creative problem-solving, and exemplify the industry’s ability to change and improve the world. The appointed committee behind the competition works to continuously improve the program, cultivate diverse, esteemed judging panels, identify opportunities to enhance efficiency in the submission and judging processes, and collaborate with local chapters to foster regional growth and participation.

Ciancia is a Senior Consultant at Langan with more than 50 years of experience. He has left his mark on several facets of the AEC industry, including the protection of historic structures, the evaluation of complicated foundation systems, and the design of deep excavations within poor soil and weathered rock. Ciancia’s effective leadership style has enabled him to cultivate an impressive team of award-winning engineers who have worked on some of New York City’s most challenging projects. These include One Vanderbilt, Columbia University Manhattanville, 9/11 Memorial Slurry Wall Re-Support, Cornell University Tech Campus on Roosevelt Island, and the decade-long restoration of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
