ASCE Pittsburgh Recognizes The Glasshouse with Sustainability Award

ASCE Pittsburgh honored Langan project The Glasshouse with the 2021 Sustainability Award during its annual Engineer’s Banquet on Saturday, February 19. This award is presented to one engineering project per year, recognizing the team’s innovative sustainable practices and adherence to principles of economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

The Glasshouse is a five-story mixed-use building with over 300 apartment units, ground floor restaurant and retail space, indoor parking, and a secure indoor bike storage area. Langan provided site/civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering services for the project. The project was extremely environmentally sensitive because of the location within the floodplain, site contaminants, and the ACT II process.

Some sustainable aspects of The Glasshouse project include a multi-functional building with diversified economic benefits; community development, connectivity, and accessibility to multi-modal transport; and remediation of the property under the voluntary Act 2 Program.
