Hilltop Park Renovation Receives ASCE Award

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) San Francisco chapter recognized the Hilltop Park renovation as its Outstanding Parks and Recreation Project. Located in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco, Hilltop Park underwent an $6.7-million renovation to transform the underused park into a multi-purpose public space. The updates include a 70-foot sundial amphitheater and plaza, a skateboard park, two new playgrounds, additional seating, picnic and barbecue areas, an adult fitness and meditation area, and accessible pathways.

“I am immensely proud to be on the team that made this happen,” said Langan Associate Cary Ronan, the geotechnical project manager for the park renovation. “Winning the ASCE award is a testament to how special this park is and the benefit it provides to San Franciscans of all ages.

Langan conducted a geotechnical investigation and provided recommendations for site preparation, grading, and foundation design for the new structural elements. Our team also provided recommendations on the retaining wall, flexible pavement designs, and site drainage, as well as performed a limited environmental site characterization.
