San Francisco Site/Civil Status

Langan’s Local Expertise in the Bay Area and Beyond

Candlestick Point Center Project (CP02), San Francisco, CA
In 2010 when Langan expanded its site/civil practice to San Francisco, DJ Hodson decided to take the lead. With 20 years of experience in New York and in many international locations, his ability to manage complex projects here and abroad was well-established. But even Hodson had to admit that the Bay Area brought some unique challenges, none more than proving that Langan was committed to being local for the long haul.
“Prospective clients want their site/civil consultant to know the local regulations and permitting processes, so initially we had to demonstrate that we could match and even beat the performance of our competition,” said Hodson. “It took some time, and more importantly some faith in Langan from clients, but we have grown our site/civil practice in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley, while also continuing our support of major international projects.”
These projects include Candlestick Point Center Project (CP02), a planned urban mixed-use project at the former Candlestick Park Stadium in San Francisco; City Place Santa Clara Landfill—transforming the 240-acre landfill into a mega mixed-use development with office, hotel, retail, restaurant, entertainment, residential, and parking spaces; and 399 Fremont, San Francisco—the 42-story residential tower and 9-story podium that recently received two Engineering News Record (ENR) awards. We were also recently brought on as civil engineer for the Treasure Island Redevelopment peer review team and projects for the UC-Santa Cruz Crown College campus.
There are many reasons for the success of Langan’s site/civil practice in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. First, Hodson’s team, which consists of engineers from the region like Senior Project Managers Pam Nieting and Vitina Mandella, and others that re-located from another Langan office to San Francisco like Project Engineer Katie Regina. Second, close coordination with other long-standing technical disciplines, such as environmental and geotechnical engineering, has led to numerous opportunities for the firm. That model, the integration of these “ground and down” services in support of design and development, is a key differentiator for Langan in the region that streamlines consultant coordination and brings measurable value to our clients.
