Lori Simpson Elected Secretary of DFI
by: Nicole VeenstraThe Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Board of Trustees elected Lori Simpson, PE, GE secretary of the organization. Simpson made history with this title, becoming the first woman elected to DFI’s Executive Committee. She has been a DFI trustee since 2016 and plays an active role on the Codes and Standards Committee.
Simpson is a Managing Principal at Langan and the leader of the firm’s Oakland and Seattle offices. Considered an expert on deep foundations and ground improvement, Simpson specializes in sites with challenging subsurface conditions. Throughout her 30 years of experience, she has worked on complex projects such as sports stadiums, high rises, developments on reclaimed sites, healthcare facilities, biotech facilities, multi-family housing, affordable housing, commercial developments, logistics facilities, and bridges. Some of her notable projects include Chase Center, UCSF Center for Vision Neuroscience, and the massive Mission Bay Redevelopment.
Founded in 1976, DFI is an international association for geotechnical professionals involved in the design and construction of deep foundations and excavations. The organization brings together more than 4,000 members worldwide, providing a forum for networking, education, communication, collaboration, and advancement of the industry.
