Located on Roosevelt Island in New York, Southpoint Park promotes nature-based, sustainable, and resilient design to combat climate change and future sea level rise. The project successfully transformed a neglected, contaminated site into a community-driven waterfront park. As part of the shoreline restoration, Langan provided multidisciplinary services in support of the rip-rap revetment design to replace the park’s seawalls along the east and west shorelines. Additionally, the team helped create public access to the waterfront through a lower path along the eastern shore and an esplanade overlooking Downtown Manhattan and the western shore.
Founded in 1914, ASLA New York is the national professional association representing landscape architects. The chapter comprises over 500 members located in the five boroughs of New York City; Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island; and Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, and Rockland Counties.
