Two New York Industry Organizations Name Ciancia Engineer of the Year

Parsippany, NJ (May 29, 2018) – Andrew J. Ciancia, Chairman of the Board at Langan, has been named Engineer of the Year by ACEC New York and Civil Engineer of the Year by the ASCE Metropolitan Section. Every year, each award is given to an individual who embodies professional integrity and has made significant contributions to the engineering industry throughout his or her career.

“Earning one ‘Engineer of the Year’ Award is a great honor in our field, and winning two in the same year ranks as an incredible achievement, but for anyone who knows Andy Ciancia, this is no surprise,” said David T. Gockel, President/CEO of Langan. “Langan’s success and reputation, particularly in New York City, has a lot to do with Andy’s expertise, experience, and close client relationships. Moreover, his role as the Chairman of Langan’s Board of Directors is invaluable, and he continues to lead teams that tackle some of the most challenging projects in the city.”

Since joining Langan in 1996, Ciancia has played an integral role in the firm’s growth, helping open offices in New York City and Philadelphia. His sure hand has touched many iconic projects in the region, including Hearst Tower, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Cornell University’s Tech Campus on Roosevelt Island, Barclays Center, and numerous projects for NYU. He has also shaped the public’s treatment of landmark structures since 1980 by working as a consultant for the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, providing geotechnical recommendations to limit damage to historic buildings during construction. Additionally, Ciancia is active at Rutgers University, his alma mater, where he serves as Vice Chair of the Civil Engineering Department’s Industry Advisory Board, is a member of the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, and participates in student mentoring programs.

“It is humbling to be named Engineer of the Year by two of the state’s most prestigious professional organizations, and I will be honored to accept the awards in front of my family and peers,” said Ciancia. “It is a great privilege to work at Langan, a firm that takes on some of the most difficult engineering challenges in the region, and to serve as a mentor to many of our next generation of leaders.”
