Langan Supports Major Revitalization along Connecticut River
by: Nicole VeenstraLangan is partnering with Cooper Robertson and Karp Strategies on an ambitious riverfront master plan in Middletown, Connecticut. Led by Cooper Robertson, an architecture and urban design firm, the project aims to reimagine roughly 200 acres along the Connecticut River, transforming the area into a sustainable and accessible new city district with recreational and mixed-use space.
Working with the City of Middletown, the project team is meeting with community members and stakeholders to understand the needs of the region, identify opportunities, establish a timeframe, and create an actionable plan for the future of the riverfront. Langan is also responsible for developing solutions in response to critical challenges associated with post-industrial urban waterfronts, resilience, flood risk, and environmental conditions.
“Revitalizing a large stretch of the Connecticut River creates an opportunity to reinvest in the community while implementing resilient and sustainable design solutions throughout the region,” said Chris Cardany, PE, LEED AP, Principal at Langan. “We are excited to work on such a transformative project and look forward to working with the project team to set a new precedent for waterfront redevelopment.”
