OVERVIEW
The renovation of the former Macy’s men’s store in San Francisco’s Union Square District involved structurally reinforcing the building, renovating the exterior concrete façade, relocating elevators, and removing and replacing the ground floor. Langan performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, provided soil and soil vapor investigation services, conducted a geotechnical investigation, reviewed the geotechnical aspects of the project plans, and issued a plan review letter. We also provided construction observation services, which included overseeing the installation of temporary shoring elements, checking subgrade preparation for the footings, elevator pits, basement floor, and exterior concrete flatwork, and investigating the compaction of general site fill and utility trench backfill.
