Langan provided geotechnical engineering services for this 40-story, 680,000 GSF mixed-use building located in Midtown Manhattan. Langan’s geotechnical engineers conducted a two-phase field investigation program. The initial borings indicated the site was underlain by competent bedrock; however, a subsequent review of historic maps in the area revealed a former stream ran along the east side of the site. Langan conducted a second phase of borings focused on the area of the former stream and confirmed that there was a former stream channel with a deep valley of soft weathered rock.
