The Beacon

OVERVIEW
The Beacon adaptive reuse project includes redeveloping a historic school building into a multi-use community facility and constructing 250 affordable apartments (30% of which will be reserved for previously unhoused individuals). This project is a model for sustainable construction in New York City through its use of Passive House-level design for the retrofit and new building and its renewable energy production. Langan provided a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment, a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Brownfield Cleanup Program application, and a Remedial Investigation Work Plan. We also conducted a Hazardous Material Assessment and Report, which included an asbestos-containing materials survey, a lead-containing paint survey, and caulk testing for PCBs.
