Verizon – Ground Zero Petroleum Release Response

OVERVIEW
Langan provided technical assistance to Verizon’s Environmental Affairs group in addressing a petroleum release at a Verizon facility located at Ground Zero, the former World Trade Center Complex inLower Manhattan. The assignment was to summarize Verizon’s emergency response efforts for mitigating a September 21, 2001 release from a 6,000 gallon aboveground kerosene storage tank. Langan performed a site inspection, reviewed building plans, researched the history of fill underlying the building, and interviewed the Building Maintenance Manager for additional information. We then prepared a report of our findings to substantiate Verizon’s position that a soil boring and monitoring well installation program in the basement of the building was not necessary, and submitted to NYCDEP.
