Redwood Shores Elementary School
OVERVIEW
Langan performed a geologic and seismic hazard evaluation and a geotechnical investigation for the Redwood Shores Elementary School. The development included five single-story buildings. The primary issue affecting the design of the building foundations and site improvements is Bay Mud settlement resulting from the weight of fill that has been placed to raise site grades and building loads. We concluded the buildings could be supported on shallow rigid foundation system provided the total and differential settlements were tolerable to the design team. We developed a modulus of subgrade reaction for the structural engineer to evaluate differential settlements that included the rigidity of the foundation system.
