UConn Toscano Family Ice Forum
OVERVIEW
The 105,000 SF UConn Toscano Family Ice Forum is a design-build hockey arena with 2,700 seats, 374 parking spaces, offices, training and weight rooms, hydrotherapy pools, locker rooms, and a fan plaza at the entrance. Langan previously completed a topographic survey and private utility mark-out at the site and provided an additional topographic and partial boundary survey for this project. We also performed a subsurface exploration, prepared a geotechnical report and site engineering plans, designed the stormwater management system, and developed a site materials and planting plan. Using the latest urban horticultural practices, our planting plans included native, drought-tolerant species to provide a year-round aesthetic that complements the building architecture. The site also incorporates two rain gardens, a stormwater basin planted with native species, pollinator meadows to provide habitat, and energy-efficient LED lighting to tie the arena to the university’s adjacent athletic district.
