Contaminants Of Emerging Concern

Contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) are not novel in the environmental regulated community. However, the most recent wave of CECs – including 1,4-dioxane, 1,2,3-trichloropropane (1,2,3-TCP), and a family of chemicals known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) – are posing heightened concerns and unique technical and regulatory challenges that often defy conventional solutions. Langan is meeting those challenges head-on by exploring, developing, and applying emerging science and technology in the areas of CEC sampling, analysis, site characterization, forensics, treatment, and remediation. We are doing this through independent research and practical application of new technologies. We are also contributing to the development of guidance and regulation on the state and federal levels, as well as through participation on technical teams within the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council. We are advising clients and the broader environmental regulated community on the rapidly evolving technical and regulatory landscape and helping them to assess and address their CEC concerns.
