FBI/GSA Claremont Tower

OVERVIEW
Langan performed site planning, site/civil, geotechnical, environmental, survey, traffic, and landscape architecture services for this 12-story, 500,000-square-foot mixed-use office and retail tower that includes a five-story parking facility. Difficult site constraints required innovative site planning, foundation recommendations, and environmental solutions due to the future widening of Route 21, existing topography, subsurface soil, and environmental conditions.

NYPD Bomb Squad Building

OVERVIEW
Located on the southern peninsula of Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx, the new NYPD Bomb Squad Building will replace the unit’s existing facilities, which were severely damaged during Superstorm Sandy. Langan reviewed the geotechnical subsurface investigation report prepared by CDM Smith and provided by the New York City Department of Design and Construction for the Bomb Squad Building. The poor subsurface conditions and the site lying below the one percent annual flood zone with a base flood elevation of el. 14 posed challenges to the design of the foundation. Langan redesigned the foundation system to substantiate uplift force during high flood levels. Our recommendation produced an economical foundation system to suit the subsurface conditions with flood resilience capability.

Nashville Airport Concourse D and Terminal Wings

OVERVIEW
Langan is assisting the Hensel Phelps design-build team with geotechnical design and construction aspects of the Nashville Airport Concourse D and Terminal Wings expansion project. The project includes construction of a new 43,000-SF Concourse D and South Terminal, the 36,500-SF North Terminal, and a new central utility plant. Because the site is located in a karst region, Langan completed a supplemental geotechnical investigation to further explore the depth and quality of the rock, the pinnacling nature of the rock surface, and to assess possible voids in the rock formation. Langan provided geotechnical recommendations and specifications for design of new shallow and deep foundations at the site including footings, drilled piers, micropiles, and tie-down anchors. Langan also provided recommendations for geotechnical-related aspects of the project such as earthwork, temporary shoring, and karst mitigation. Our engineering team is currently coordinating with the structural engineers and contractors to optimize the foundation systems and is providing on-site inspection of drilled pier load testing and installation.
