Parkside Edge

OVERVIEW
Parkside Edge is the first phase of a transformative park and community involvement project, which beautifies the edge of Parkside Avenue in Philadelphia, and creates new (and safer) pedestrian and community connections into West Fairmount Park. The 5-acre site revitalizes the area by adding gathering spaces in neighborhood open-air “living rooms,” lusher landscaping, more and safer pedestrian connections into the park, and attractive rain gardens, as part of a green stormwater infrastructure system.Langan provided engineering services, ranging from survey to site-civil design of innovative green stormwater infrastructure, from design of traffic calming (such as a mid-block crossing with RRFBs) to permitting and construction support services.

Ronald McDonald House

OVERVIEW
The new Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut is a non-profit, 28,000-SF home comprised of 12 bedrooms, a handicapped accessible kitchen, dining room, family room with all the amenities of a home, laundry facilities and off street parking is being constructed close to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Hospital of St. Raphael and downtown New Haven. Prior to the redevelopment, Langan provided due diligence services and completed a phase II subsurface investigation to assess former property uses. Langan also prepared a soil management plan outlining the procedures for documentation, excavation, management and reuse of historical urban fill at the property for use during construction. Our geotechnical team conducted a subsurface exploration to develop geotechnical design and construction recommendations along with providing construction oversight services for foundation construction.

UCSF Mission Bay — Center For Vision Neuroscience

OVERVIEW
Plans for the new Center for Vision Neuroscience call for a 12-story building with 5-story south wing and a 3-story north wing. It will house ophthalmology clinics as well as teaching, research, conference, and administrative space. Langan explored subsurface conditions and evaluated existing data from explorations by others. The previous consultant recommended pile foundations, but we saved the team money by recommending ground improvement to allow for the building to be supported on shallow mat foundation. During construction, we observed installation and testing of displacement column ground improvement, site preparation, and other geotechnical-related construction items.

Fulfillment Center – Thornton

OVERVIEW
Langan provided multidisciplinary engineering and permitting services for this three-story, 855,000-SF sort fulfillment center. Langan was responsible for site/civil engineering for the project site, roadway, and infrastructure design for three new city streets, traffic engineering and permitting with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District. We also designed the relocation of an irrigation canal that traversed the site to avoid conflicts with the preferred site layout.
