NTT Silicon Valley SV1 Data Center

OVERVIEW
The 160,000 SF, four-story, 24MW of total critical load Silicon Valley SV1 Data Center is the first facility in Santa Clara to use an earthquake-resistant design featuring a base isolation system. Located on a three-acre site, this project also included construction of utilities, surface parking, pervious pavements, and landscaping. Langan performed a geotechnical investigation to evaluate subsurface conditions and potential geologic hazards, developed recommendations for driven and auger cast piles, and provided supplemental recommendations for concrete pads within the generator yard and shipping and receiving areas. We also developed site-specific response spectra to evaluate the base-isolated building’s seismic response to the risk-targeted maximum considered earthquake.

400 Central

OVERVIEW
400 Central is a mixed-use development consisting of a 45-story luxury residential tower and 18-story hotel connected by a seven-level podium, which will also provide retail space, office space, and structured parking. Once complete, the residential tower will be the tallest building in St. Petersburg. Langan initially conducted environmental assessment services at the site prior to the purchase of the property. As the project’s geotechnical engineer of record, we recommended implementing a non-redundant drilled shaft foundation system to support the tall tower, resulting in significant cost savings. We also achieved cost savings by recommending a ground improvement program for the podium. This will require additional analyses because of the varied foundation but will cost less than a deep foundation system.

Lehigh University – Health, Science & Technology Building

OVERVIEW
Lehigh University’s 200,000 SF state-of-the-art academic and research facility provides a modern, flexible space for the College of Health. As the largest academic building on Lehigh’s main campus, the facility serves as a welcoming gateway for the public to view and engage in activities taking place in the “living laboratory.” The building includes a pedestrian bridge to other on-campus research facilities, a café with a green roof for native plants, and solar shades that mimic the microscopic image of a cell. Langan provided site feasibility services to evaluate several properties and assist in site selection, prepared the subdivision and land development plans, and evaluated the site lighting design. We also prepared a transportation impact study, which evaluated pedestrian access to/from the site and reallocated parking spaces removed during construction.

East Boston Neighborhood Health Center – 10 Gove Street

OVERVIEW
The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center is a vital part of the community, and has been since it opened its doors in 1970. The medical center recently upgraded its facility at 10 Gove Street by adding a new fire protection service line and implementing stormwater improvements. Langan conducted boundary and topographic surveys, provided schematic design in the form of a site plan, and developed drawings during the design phase to support project team coordination and the Boston Water and Sewer Commission approval process. Our drawings showed the new underground infiltration chambers at the site, and included site, grading, soil erosion and sediment control, and utility plans.

Village at Newtown

OVERVIEW
The Village at Newtown underwent a renovation and expansion, developing 60,000 SF of retail and restaurant space, adding public space amenities, and renovating retail spaces, landscapes, and walkways. The expansion adds a mix of local and national tenants and allows for improved walkability, ample outdoor seating, and gathering areas including an amphitheater, plazas, planters, and fire pits. Langan provided input on the public space areas; designed and engineered storm drainage, stormwater management, and complex utility and infrastructure improvements; and provided construction oversight. We also adjusted the project plans and phasing as necessary to provide access to the open businesses and help accommodate new tenant requirements and schedules.

Fairfield University – North Townhouses

OVERVIEW
Fairfield University is developing two townhouse buildings in an effort to expand its on-campus student housing. Langan’s survey team prepared a computer-generated “on the ground” topographic survey of the six-acre site, which located the boundary line, identified the locations of accessible features such as buildings and sidewalks, and included information about aboveground utilities. Our site/civil engineers prepared site engineering plans (including site layout, grading and drainage, and site utility) and provided a stormwater management report to address the quantity and quality of runoff for the developed condition.
