4th Remediation Summit: Managing Risks at Legacy Sites - Insights for Success

This fall, Langan convened national experts at Grand Cascades Lodge in New Jersey to share business and technical perspectives on a range of topics including Superfund reform and emerging contaminants. We were extremely pleased by the number and variety of topics covered in the program, which covered the perspective of site owners, developers and regulators sharing unique first hand insights.

Attendees heard timely updates from our keynote speakers, John Morris, Global Remediation Director of Honeywell International, Inc. and John Simon, Editor-In-Chief of Remediation Journal. Morris highlighted recent Superfund reforms in his presentation entitled “A Look at Superfund Today: Progress and Innovation or Not?” The timing for this presentation could not have been better, as the US EPA Superfund Task Force had just released its report focused on improving “the Agency’s implementation of the Superfund Program in order to accelerate cleanups and shorten the path to redevelopment and safe, productive reuse.” As expected, Morris’s insights on the Task Force recommendations were invaluable.

Simon’s presentation, “PFAS: Where Are We Going?” was as thought provoking as the title. Attendees benefited from hearing a perceptive presentation that distilled the latest on this topic from 60 leading members of the scientific, engineering, regulatory, and legal communities who assembled for the PFAS Experts Symposium in Arlington, Virginia, which Simon hosted earlier in the year. His presentation focused on the quickly evolving developments of PFAS regulations, chemistry and analytics, transport and fate concepts, toxicology, and remediation technologies.

Langan is grateful to have the opportunity to host summits for sharing of such informed perspectives through our Remediation Summit. Plans are already underway for our 5th Remediation Summit to be held in May, 2021. Langan will be establishing its Steering Committee early next year. If you are interested in participating, please contact Stew Abrams, Langan’s Director of Remediation Technology at (609) 282-8017 or sabrams@langan.com.
