Miller Athletic Field Rehabilitation

OVERVIEW
Langan provided a full range of services for the planning and rehabilitation of Miller Field, a former United States military airfield, which was given to the National Park Service in 1974 for recreational use. Now a historic landmark and part of Gateway National Recreation Area, Miller Field consists of 59 athletic fields over 160 acres. The heavily-used athletic fields and supporting infrastructure had deteriorated over the years, leaving them inadequate and substandard for optimal play and local demand. After performing a site survey and assessment of the existing field layout and infrastructure, Langan developed alternative design concepts for a public workshop to obtain program input from local community members and athletic league leaders. The final design maximized the number of playing fields, increased parking and improved vehicular and pedestrian circulation throughout the site.
