Candela Lofts

OVERVIEW
On the site of a former candle factory, Candela Lofts pays homage to an era before electricity. Langan provided environmental testing and remediation services for the redevelopment, which has achieved Passive House Certification - the highest performance standard in the world. Designed as a self-sufficient, zero-energy set of residences, the project establishes a new threshold for sustainability in residential design, utilizing advanced energy modeling, building systems, and building envelope assembly.

Miami Marine Stadium

OVERVIEW
Built in 1963, Miami Marine Stadium is a 6,500-seat stadium that was intended for hosting water sports, concerts, and boxing matches.  The building hosted its last event in 1990 and was condemned in 1992. In 2008, the "Friends of Miami Marine Stadium" began an initiative to restore the historic structure. Langan provided 3D laser scanning services to support the restoration effort, and in 2016 the stadium hosted the Miami Boat Show.

Maplewood Senior Living

OVERVIEW
Langan provided State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) services, including the preparation of a full Environmental Assessment Form (FEAF), in connection with the construction of a 21-story, 178,162-SF senior care living facility in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan. The project will include 212 dwelling units, memory care facilities, dining facilities, and recreational space. Our environmental services included a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, Phase II Environmental Site Investigation, waste characterization, spill investigation and remediation. Langan also provided bid support, construction administration and environmental monitoring, as needed. Langan updated the information from a previous survey to reflect the current topographical data for the full right-of-way width of the surrounding streets. Our site/civil engineering services included schematic through construction phase design, construction administration, and permitting.

West Jefferson Hills High School

OVERVIEW
West Jefferson Hills School District selected a 161-acre site for the future home of their high school complex. The proposed development will cover approximately 45 acres and include a 269,000-SF school building and district administration offices. Langan conducted natural resource services to aid in the selection of the most appropriate location for the complex within the 61-acre site. Our environmental team conducted a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA), which included soil sampling at 20 soil boring locations and soil vapor sampling at four locations. Langan subsequently completed a Human Health Risk Assessment (HHRA) to evaluate the risk posed by existing site conditions to potential future site receptors associated with the school, which showed no unacceptable carcinogenic or non-carcinogenic risks to future receptors.

Lyon Street Steps

OVERVIEW
Langan provided site/civil and geotechnical engineering services to support the ongoing reforestation efforts within the Presidio. Our team evaluated the stability of the existing Lyon Street retaining wall and the slopes behind and above the wall. The project involved a great deal of coordination among public agencies, regulatory agencies, and citizens since Lyon Street Steps is located on federal land and adjacent to private residential property.

University of Connecticut – NextGen Hall

OVERVIEW
Langan provided geotechnical engineering services for the Design Build project at the University of Connecticut (UConn) NextGen Hall.  This 210,000-SF residence hall will consist of an eight story structure housing 720 students and is the first phase of the Next Generation initiative to support the additional education incentive for science technology engineering and math programs. Langan’s scope of work during the design phases included reviewing available bridging documents, conducting a confirmation geotechnical subsurface investigation, preparation of a formal geotechnical engineering report, providing geotechnical consultation during design, preparing specifications, and reviewing construction documents. During the construction phase, Langan provided construction administration services for the geotechnical engineering aspects of the project. The project is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification.
