Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer & Data Center

OVERVIEW
Langan provided engineering, site design, and land development services to convert an existing multi-story office building into a state-of-the-art cancer care center. The overall site design allows patients to enter the building at the upper and lower levels while providing improved vehicle and pedestrian circulation patterns. Landscaped walkways provide patient access to the surrounding woodlands and expand recreational opportunities. Lush entry gardens and courtyards help create a soothing and therapeutic environment. This project is LEED Gold certified.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Cyclotron

OVERVIEW
Langan provided a complete 3D model of the spaces which will house the new cyclotron in the basement of the Schwartz Research Building. Langan employed the use of 3D high definition laser scanning to capture the complex features within the space. Since the area is not easily accessible part of the scan work involved scanning and surveying the path which the new equipment would need to take in order to reach its final installation area. Once all the laser scan data was gathered it was combined with our survey information to provide an accurate base from which the model was generated.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering – The Josie Robertson Surgery Center

OVERVIEW
Located six blocks south of the hospital’s main campus, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is building a new Surgery Day Hospital (SDH) at this Upper East Side location. The new center will have 12 operating rooms, five more than the current SDH. Langan's environmental services included an asbestos survey, preparation of abatement documents, permitting support, and monitoring of abatement. Langan surveyors performed a complete topographic, utility, and boundary survey of the site as well as the surrounding properties and streets. 3-D laser scanning was also used at the site in order to provide full elevation views of the adjacent buildings.

HUMC – Emergency Trauma Department Expansion

OVERVIEW
The Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) is proposing to expand the Emergency Trauma Department (ETD) located at the hospital main campus in Hackensack, NJ. Site improvements associated with the ETD expansion consisted of a new 7,750-SF infill building addition, reconfiguration of the access drives servicing the emergency room ambulance drop-off area, and widening a roadway to provide an ambulance staging area and police / emergency vehicle parking area. Langan coordinated extensively with the project architect and client during the design process. The HUMC timeline was considered a fast track process; since Langan performed several disciplines in house, we were able to expedite the design process.

MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University Hospital

OVERVIEW
Langan is supporting the multi-story, 103,000-SF world-class cancer institute. The design includes a public plaza and garden, and a renovated landscape. The project has undergone extensive conceptual planning, programming, and site planning studies to locate the facility on an extremely tight urban site. Stormwater runoff from the proposed site was minimized by reducing the amount of on-site surface parking in favor of a heavily landscaped plaza space.

Lenox Health Greenwich Village

OVERVIEW
Originally designed in 1964, the landmarked building was formerly home to St. Vincent’s Medical Center. The 160,000-SF building underwent a restoration and adaptive reuse and now serves as Manhattan’s first free standing emergency department. Features for the redesigned structure included the addition of ambulance bays and a separate entrance for patient surgery and other services. Langan’s involvement at the site dates back to its previous ownership by St. Vincent hospital, when we provided environmental, geotechnical and survey services. Our more recent work for Northwell Health consisted of consulting during upfront certification and the city review process, surveying, a review of available building plans, a subsurface evaluation, and day-to-day coordination with the client and the design team.
