New Jersey Higher Education

Since 1970, Langan has supported growth and expansion plans on many colleges and universities around the country. From urban schools confronted by tight site constraints to large universities located in rural landscapes, Langan possesses the skills and experience to help campus planners and architects achieve their objectives. Our services have supported over 100 higher education clients and nearly every major college and university in New Jersey. Often academic clients come to count on our integrated mix of engineering and environmental services for multiple projects on their campuses, which makes us a “common denominator” among various design teams.

Montclair State University – The Heights

OVERVIEW
The first “Public Private Partnership” enabled by the New Jersey Economic Stimulus Act of 2009, this $200-million project is privately financed and adds 2,000 new beds and 24,000 SF of dining capacity on Montclair State University’s campus. This particular site was a rock quarry and posed many design challenges including steep slopes and shallow rock. Design had to accommodate a very aggressive schedule and budget goals as well as maintaining active utilities and roadways. Langan performed a site-specific shear wave velocity test which allowed the site classification to be upgraded. The result of the upgrade resulted in a 10% saving of the building superstructure cost. This project received LEED Silver certification by the USGBC.
