Langan Helps Pivotal Aviation Projects Get Off the Ground from Coast to Coast
Dan Bosworth knows all too well why New York is “the city that never sleeps.” He and his environmental team are at JFK International Airport to close spill cases at all hours of the day and night. The biggest challenge? Performing highly technical services without disrupting the constant airport operations and affecting critical infrastructure.
The team works together to develop an innovative, mobile unit that successfully identifies contaminated zones, isolates and recovers the LNAPL, and remediates the affected areas. The result? Dozens of spill closures with zero subsequent travel delays.
“Aviation projects present really unique challenges due to the proximity to critical infrastructure and the volume of daily foot traffic, which magnifies every phase of development while leaving very little room for error,” said Bosworth, PE, Senior Project Engineer, Langan. “Our team brings Langan’s expertise, long-standing relationships, and decades of airport experience to each project, helping overcome challenging situations and create practical, site-specific solutions for our clients.”
JFK is currently undergoing a $19 billion overhaul to transform the 4,930-acre facility into a 21st century global gateway, and Langan supports these efforts far beyond remediation and spill closures, working on more than 100 projects at JFK over the years. The firm’s services range from conducting a comprehensive 3D laser scan of the award-winning TWA Hotel to working as geotechnical and environmental engineer-of-record for the Terminal 1 and 6 redevelopments to leading the engineering design for JFK’s first new cargo facility in 20 years.
Yet these developments are just a glimpse at how airports are investing in the future of flight. Langan has provided multidisciplinary services at over 30 regional and international airports, working closely with airlines, agencies, and tenants to get the job(s) done. Whether it’s JFK, Newark Liberty, LaGuardia, Boston Logan, Dulles, Chicago O’Hare, Philadelphia, Nashville, Miami, LAX, San Francisco, or Seattle-Tacoma—to name a few—Langan is proud to help airport projects get out of the ground and airlines take flight.
